The Vietnam War

If you or your students are learning about the history of the Vietnam War, you have come to the right place. We have a virtual smorgasbord of teaching materials related to this important conflict in American history.

To start with, we have a Vietnam War outline. This easy-to-read and easy-to understand informative outline is available in printable PDF format. It prints as two pages (or as one double-sided sheet). Teachers can also opt to display the PDF on a projector, talk through it, and have students copy the material as notes.

Looking for a homework worksheet or in-class reading assignment? We have a printable Vietnam War worksheet which features text explaining the conflict, followed by questions.

Once students have gone through the outline and learned the material, teachers have numerous free quizzing options. Try playing a Vietnam War hangman game (which is ideally suited as a fun pre-test). Give students a chance to study individually with interactive Vietnam War flashcards. Save on paper costs by having the students complete a ten-question Vietnam War quiz online with instant results--students can email their results to you. If you'd prefer to use a paper-and-pencil test with your students (which also happens to include a DBQ essay), you can print our Vietnam War test.

Do you have your own test on the subject, but instead are simply looking for a review game that your students can play as a class? We have a Vietnam War Playtime game that is perfect for your needs. Simply divide the class into two teams and start playing. Quiz questions appear on the computer screen (displayed via your projector or whiteboard) and the game calculates scores for you.

As you can see, we offer a lot of options when it comes to covering the Vietnam War in your classes. If you can think of anything else you might like to see, do not hesitate to send us an email (or drop a comment) with your suggestions.

Hungarian Uprising Game

Here's a really neat interactive action game that I found online. Players participate in the Hungarian Uprising, a major event during the Cold War. We haven't gone all the way through it, but from what we've seen, it looks pretty good.

Tip for teachers: When you cover the Cold War in World History-Global Studies, consider placing a link to an educational game like this on your class blog, etc., right before you delve into the topic. You might be surprised with how much knowledge, as well as how many meaningful questions, your students bring to class.

Civil War in Imperial Rome

You've taken World History or Global Studies, right? How much do you remember about ancient Rome? Can you recall the civil wars which rocked the Roman world? Try playing our Civil War in Rome Playtime Game online. Test your knowledge on the end of the Roman Republic. Just beware the Ides of March!

As always, there is no registration or log-in required. Playtime is a Vegas-style quiz game that can be played by one or two players (or two teams).

Be aware that these are not "baby quizzes" designed to make you feel good! These questions are crafted by trained, experienced teachers and are the types of questions that commonly come up on high school and college tests and exams.

Imperialism in the Middle East

What do you know about imperialism in the Middle East? Many political commentators have claimed that radical movements in the region, as well as the regimes of rulers such as the late Saddam Hussein, have had causes dated back to the earliest years of Western imperialism. Do you agree or disagree? Equally (or more?) importantly, do you possess the basic background knowledge necessary for forming an educated opinion? Try playing this fun interactive hangman game on imperialism in the Middle East to find out.

Are you interested in taking a daily quiz? We are on Twitter at free study games. Each day we post a random educational game link. If you have good internet on your phone (like an iPhone or a droid), there's no problem playing these games or taking these practice tests on your cell. The games and tests are not at pace with any particular course, nor are they specific to a course. One day you'll be quizzed on the French Revolution, and the next day you'll be quizzed on fractions. The logic behind this is the educational belief that repeated exposure to material, along with a good jumbling of content, enhances long-term memory retention and comprehension. Sure, you remember that Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo the day of the test. But can you recall this information a month later? For most people, the answer is no. Repeatedly exposing yourself to this information will build the kind of long-term retention that you need to succeed in high school and beyond. Don't get stuck having to take an intensive prep course for the Regents, proficiency test, ACT, SAT, GRE, etc. Do a five- or ten-minute quiz game once a day, and you'll easily be prepared for any of these tests.
